New TIA Portal Gives MSME Exporters a Powerful Data Advantage

India has taken a major step toward making exports more transparent and data-driven with the launch of the Trade Intelligence & Analytics (TIA) Portal by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on 18 November 2025. The new digital platform aims to empower importers, exporters, startups and MSMEs by giving them access to real-time trade statistics, competitive benchmarks, market insights, and FTA-linked tariff data. For thousands of small entrepreneurs who often struggle with market research and pricing decisions, the portal offers data that was once available only to large corporations or specialised trade analysts.

At its core, the TIA portal is designed to help businesses understand what to export, where to export, and how to stay competitive. Exporters can now view country-wise demand trends, import-export flows, competitor-country performance, and product-level insights. Tools like the Trade Watch Tower provide dynamic dashboards that track shifts in global demand and pricing. This is crucial for MSMEs, who often rely on fragmented information or outdated assumptions while selecting markets.

A major highlight is the portal’s ability to simplify Free Trade Agreement (FTA) utilisation. Many exporters fail to take advantage of FTAs simply because the rules, tariff schedules, and documentation requirements are difficult to navigate. The TIA portal consolidates tariff advantages, rules of origin, duty comparisons, and partner-country requirements into clear, visual formats. For MSMEs, this means they can quickly identify which markets offer duty benefits, calculate price competitiveness, and avoid markets with high tariff barriers.

For exporters in sectors such as textiles, engineering goods, handicrafts, food processing, and auto components, this shift is particularly meaningful. These industries often face tight margins and intense competition from countries like Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Thailand. With the TIA portal, MSMEs can benchmark themselves against these global competitors by comparing export volumes, average prices, and market shares. This information can guide decisions on pricing, quality upgrades, and product design.

The portal also supports identifying new and emerging markets, a key requirement at a time when traditional markets like the US and Europe face slowing demand. AI-based insights highlight where demand is rising for Indian products and which new categories show export potential. For MSMEs that rely heavily on one or two markets, this is an opportunity to diversify and reduce risk.

Entrepreneurs should start using the TIA portal right away. Exporters can log in using their IEC credentials and access dashboards tailored to their product category. Once inside, they can analyse FTA-based tariff benefits, compare India’s tariff positions with competitor countries, and refine pricing strategies for different markets. The portal’s market-wise demand trends and competitor benchmarks can help MSMEs identify high-potential destinations, plan product upgrades, and strengthen their pitch for trade fairs and buyer meetings. Exporters should make it a habit to check the portal regularly, using these insights will help them target the right markets, improve compliance readiness, and make more informed export decisions. The TIA portal marks an important milestone in India’s journey toward making trade more efficient, transparent, and accessible for smaller businesses. For MSMEs, it is not just a database but a decision-making tool that can shape export strategies for the future.
