Agreement Signed between NSDC and DP World to Enhance Skill Development

The three-day official visit of India's Hon’ble Minister of Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, to the United Arab Emirates concluded with a focus on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DP World and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

DP World is an Emirati multinational logistics company based in Dubai, specializing in cargo logistics, port terminal operations, maritime services, and free trade zones. It handles a significant volume of containers and vessels annually.

DP World has previously partnered with NSDC to upgrade the Skill India International Centre in Varanasi. This visit formalized a long-term agreement between WE ONE, DP World's human resources arm, and NSDC to enhance skill development and the supply of manpower.

The visit emphasized the significance of skill development in strengthening the India-UAE relationship, particularly considering the large Indian population in the UAE. The Vision Document unveiled by Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed last year highlighted education and skills collaboration as a key element of the India-UAE Strategic Partnership. The leaders aimed to enhance cooperation in developing professional standards and skills frameworks to meet the UAE's labor market skill needs from India.

Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held discussions with DP World CEO Mr. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem about the recruitment of Indians for DP World's global operations and streamlining the recruitment process. Both parties committed to collaborative efforts in skill development and upskilling programs aligned with the evolving workplace requirements.

The Minister also highlighted India's New Education Policy of 2020, which emphasizes integrating skills and training with education to provide skilling, re-skilling, and upskilling opportunities, aligning with technological advancements and workplace needs.
