India Retains Access to the European Union Market for Key Animal Origin Exports

India has secured continued access to the European Union market for exports of aquaculture products, honey, eggs and animal casings beyond September 2026. The development follows India’s inclusion in the list of countries authorised under the European Union’s revised regulatory framework addressing concerns related to antimicrobial resistance. The decision is particularly significant for India’s fisheries sector, as exports of fish and fishery products to the European Union are currently valued at around USD 1.59 billion. Continued market access will help exporters maintain business continuity and explore further growth opportunities in one of the world’s largest markets. The achievement comes through coordinated efforts by the Department of Commerce, the Export Inspection Council (EIC), MPEDA and other stakeholders, who worked closely with European authorities to meet regulatory requirements. The move is expected to strengthen export prospects while reinforcing India’s commitment to quality, food safety and international compliance standards.
