SIDBI and Indian Post Payments Bank come together to support rural and informal micro businesses

Strategic cooperation between the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) aims at providing financial support and assistance to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in rural and remote parts of India.

This cooperation seeks to engage informal and micro businesses in these areas by taking advantage of SIDBI's lending and credit risk assessment models and IPPB's rural reach. Through its merchant onboarding system and collection solutions, IPPB will also help SIDBI's customers digitize payment methods.

The two organizations will work together to improve the Dak Sevaks' (postal staff) skills in order to facilitate lending and other services for micro businesses. In order to promote MSMEs and the MSME ecosystem in the nation, they will also look at other areas of shared interest, with a focus on informal microbusinesses.

The alliance will also establish a Swavalamban Challenge Fund to help rural livelihood businesses and plans for a hackathon involving the fintech sector to encourage innovation in financial services in rural areas. In India's rural and distant regions, the cooperation is anticipated to improve financial inclusion and access to financial services for small businesses and informal businesses.
