Serum Institute of India in a legal tangle with Cutis Biotech that claims to have rights to the ‘Covishield’ trademark
A commercial court in Pune has issued a notice to Serum Institute of India (SII) seeking its response to a perpetual injunction suit filed by Nanded-based Cutis Biotech that claims that it had applied for the trademark of ‘Covishield’ before SII did.
However, SII did not comment on the development. ‘Covishield’ is the brand name used by SII for the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine being readied for roll-out across the country soon. Cutis Biotech is a 10-year-old pharma company from Nanded in Maharashtra.
