The Ministry of Commerce Extends QCO Deadlines for Micro and Small Businesses in India

The deadline for implementing Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for copper products, drums, and tins have been extended by the Ministry of Commerce. Now, micro and small businesses will have an additional six and three months to comply with the QCOs, respectively. The QCOs will go into effect six months after being announced in the online gazette.

The purpose of notifying QCOs is to improve the standard of domestically produced goods, stop the import of subpar goods into India, and safeguard environmental, animal, and plant health. Key items for which QCOs are being produced have been selected by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and stakeholders. Nine standards for copper goods are included in this as listed below:

The goal of the timeline extensions for MSMEs is to give them additional time to adhere to the QCOs and make sure that their products fulfill the necessary quality standards. This would support fair trade principles and help to raise the general standard of goods made in India.
