IndiaSkills 2023–2024 is launched by the skill ministry with a 2.5 million participant goal.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, India, launched the IndiaSkills 2023–24 program and celebrated the winners of the WorldSkills 2022 competition, where India secured the 11th position globally.


WorldSkills is the world's largest skill competition, conducted once a year by WorldSkills International, with 86 member countries. It serves as a benchmark for high performance and assesses vocational excellence in the workforce.

In 2022, it featured over 1,000 participants from 58 countries, competing in 61 different skills. India participated in 50 skills, including emerging areas like robot system integration and additive manufacturing, industry 4.0, digital construction, mobile application development, and renewable energy. India achieved its best-ever ranking. securing the 11th position since it began participating in the competition in 2007.

The Union Minister for Skill Development, Dharmendra Pradhan , emphasized the need to increase the number of participants from 0.25 million to 2.5 million to enhance competencies and reduce the emphasis on acquiring traditional degrees. He highlighted the importance of developing employable skills to improve workforce market acceptance. He further stressed on the significance of competencies, applied knowledge, and hands-on training in the 21st century and urged the need to bridge the gap between degrees earned and skills acquired.

IndiaSkills serves as a precursor to the WorldSkills competition, and winners at the national level will have the opportunity to participate in the global event in Paris.
