Business SME Fund for European SMEs to access IP Rights

Business SME Fund for European SMEs to access IP Rights

The Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund is a 20 million Euro grant scheme created to help European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) access their intellectual property rights.

Supported by the European Commission and the EUIPO, the Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund is aimed at businesses that wish to develop their IP strategies and protect their IP rights, at national, regional or EU level.

Covering IP pre-diagnostic services (IP scan) and/or trade mark and design applications, the Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund can help you power your business.

Each SME can be reimbursed up to a maximum of EUR 1 500. Also the below mentioned two services are providing to SMEs:

Service 1: 75% off IP pre-diagnostic services (IP scan), wherein professional IP experts will help SMEs to identify the value of their intellectual property assets. This can help them learn how to shape their IP business strategy now - and in the future.

Service 2: 50% off trade mark and design application fees, wherein once a SME has decided what intellectual property rights it would like to protect at a national, regional and EU level, it can get 50% off its basic application fees.

IP pre-diagnostic services under this scheme are provided or coordinated by participating national and regional IP offices and do not constitute a legal service.

IP pre-diagnostics are key in building SMEs' IP strategy as a business. Intellectual property experts look at the business model, products and/or services and growth plans and support SMEs to formulate their IP-strategy from a business perspective. This service can help them decide what IP rights to apply for, how to develop their IP portfolio, if they already have registered rights, and it will help them to formulate their IP-strategy for the future.

The SME Fund is aimed directly at small and medium-sized enterprises based in the 27 EU Member States, distributed in five phases (windows) during 2021. If an enterprise fits the official EU definition of a SME, it can apply for support for the services described above.
