GOI to launch labour exchange platform named Unnati

As is well-known, the Covid-19 pandemic has not only severely affected normal life besides impacting lives of nearly 40 million migrant labourers of the country. This has created a need for a jobs discovery and matching platform.

In response to the need, the Government of India (GOI) has decided to launch ‘Unnati’, a labour exchange platform to digitally enable livelihood access for blue and grey collar workers in India on an urgent basis.

The platform will engage a wide range of participants in this ecosystem such as the MSMEs, large organisations/OEMs, subcontractors, job seekers, States and Central Government organisations. It is a simple, scalable ‘platform of platforms’ which will connect and collaborate with various partners in the jobs and skills marketplace.

The beta launch will take place in a few weeks from now and the country-wide launch is planned for mid-August. The goal is to have at least 1 million jobs on the portal at the time of the launch that would make swift on-boarding of verified MSMEs and corporates, critical for the success of the portal.

This effort, driven by several volunteers and contributors, is being led by NITI Aayog with the support of Ministry of the MSME and Ministry of Youth Affairs.
