Enhancing GeM Vendor Reach: MeitY's Bhashini Platform Empowers Local Language Sellers

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been struck between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's (MeitY) Digital India Bhashini Division and the government's public procurement platform and Government e-Marketplace (GeM). This MoU's goal is to assist GeM vendors in creating a localized catalog of their goods and services.

What is the Bhashini Platform?

With the help of the Bhashini platform, individuals and organizations can translate content into a variety of Indian languages. In July 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced its launch. The platform lowers the language barrier in India by facilitating translation as well as assisting users in communicating efficiently with others who may not speak the language.

Technology for Local Language Sellers:

The MoU intends to foster startup industries in local languages by facilitating the evolution of language technology and generative AI solutions. According to GeM, local language technology will aid vendors in expanding their customer base and increasing their market share. This will be accomplished by incorporating the DIBD platform and other relevant technologies into the GeM procurement solutions.

This partnership between Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MeitY) DIBD and GeM will encourage inclusive growth and broaden the market reach of GeM vendors.
