8 Indian Startups Reducing Costs & Extending Range

In India, the market for electric cars is expanding. According to the Government's "Vahan" website, there were more than 2.8 million registered electric cars (EVs) in the nation as of August 2023. The government's measures, including the implementation of legislation and the provision of subsidies to encourage a greener environment, are primarily responsible for this spike.

The government has set high goals for the future in order to further this cause. The target is for thirty percent of private automobiles, seventy percent of commercial vehicles, and eighty percent of two- and three-wheelers to be powered by electricity by 2030.

The Bounce Infinity E1 is an electric scooter that offers users the option of "battery as a service." This is the first e-scooter in India that doesn't necessarily require batteries, which eliminates the inconvenience of charging.

Varun Goenka and Ankur Madan co-founded Charge-up with the goal of lowering the expenses associated with buying and maintaining batteries for e-rickshaw drivers. In order to enable drivers avoid wasting valuable time on charging, a battery-swapping concept was created.

When transitioning to EVs, it’s important to consider more effective methods for generating the electricity needed for charging. This motivated Mainak Chakraborty and Sreekrishna Sankar from GPS Renewables to establish a biogas-powered EV charging station in Haji Ali, Mumbai.

Another deterrent to the adoption of EVs is high upfront costs. SWYTCHD is solving this problem by giving EVs on a monthly subscription. Started by Sameer Arif in January 2022, the company provides electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers on a monthly subscription to customers in Bengaluru.

Many issues arise since most of the cells and batteries used in India's electric cars are imported. In Bengaluru, Log9 Materials, a cutting-edge battery and deep-tech firm, opened India's first facility for the production of lithium-ion cells.

Exicom has been providing EV charging solutions for homes, workplaces, and public spaces since 2017. The Gurugram-based enterprise has commissioned more than 6,000 EV chargers in over 20 states, making charging in public places simple.
