Dependence on foreign countries for every small need related to defence, is just not a serious threat to our country's self-respect, but also strategically, besides causing economic loss, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The course towards Atmanirbharta has been charted by the Government of India's transformational list of plans, promoting native design and development and dedicated defence corridors to boost defence production. This comes with greater opportunities created both within and outside India. The three dimensional Atma Nirbhar Navy is capable of carrying out operations right from disaster relief measures to an All out combat.

Our transformation from a buyer to a builder's Navy has been inspired by our maritime legacy of indegeneous design and construction. Also, the future submarine program will be our largest Atmanirbhar project, with the introduction of the private sector in defence design and manufacturing. Initiatives like 'Vocal for Local' and 'Start up India' have been significant in making India a defence manufacturing hub.
INS Vikrant has been constructed using 26000 Tonnes of warship graded steel supplied by the Steel authority of India Limited. The carrier is made up of a whopping 76% indegeneous content. This has been achieved as a result of partnership between 90 Indian OEMS (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and more than 100 MSMEs & auxilliaries. The INS Project has successfully provided a direct and indirect employment to 32000 personnel across the country. There has been an Increase in the role of MSMEs and Private sector in transforming India into a Blue economy and India's goal of achieving 100% Atmanirbharta in defence manufacturing.
