Assam Government's New Scheme to Boost Rural Women Entrepreneurship
The Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, launched by the Assam government, is a key step towards empowering rural women entrepreneurs. This effort, carried out by the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM), aims to provide financial assistance to rural women entrepreneurs, developing self-reliance and economic independence. Women from rural areas are eligible to apply for this scheme through local self help groups if they have less than 4 children and all their girl children are enrolled in school.
This scheme comes after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the extraordinary success of the Asomi Saras mela hosted in Guwahati.
"This is an incredible success that demonstrates the potential of our female entrepreneurs. To leverage this potential, we are introducing the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan, which aims to financially support 40 lakh women members of Self Help Groups," wrote Himanta Biswa Sarma.
This plan complements the Assam government's other efforts to promote women's empowerment. The Swa-Kalita Scheme, for example, aims to help women's self-help groups (SHGs) by providing financial assistance and training in income-generating activities. Furthermore, the Majoni Scheme gives financial assistance to needy widows in Assam, enabling them to meet their necessities.
Swanirbhar Naari, a famous project announced by the Assam government on January 13, 2022, was introduced by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. This ambitious program aims to make Assam's weavers self-sufficient. These programs highlight the Assam government's commitment to increasing women's economic participation and providing them with the resources they need to succeed as entrepreneurs.
